Lawrence Ogden Mallery
This is a colorized painting of an old photo of my grandfather who sold flowers on the street corner of downtown D.C. in the 1940s.
Memories Like Butterflies
Erna Kindler Memorial Award / Transparent Watercolor Society of America 2018
transparent watercolor
13.5”w x 21”h
Many of us have experienced a loved one going through dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease. This painting relates to the thoughts and memories that are so close yet so fleeting. When a butterfly lands on us, we want to inspect it’s beauty and stare at it, but it flies away too soon, just like the memories that come but do not stay.
